Interested in working with Cartel? We're looking for a Production Associate to join our family of awesome people at our Tempe Roastery. The Production Roaster acts as a support partner by roasting and packaging coffee, ensuring orders to stores and wholesale customers are filled on a timely basis.

The Production Roaster curates meaningful experiences by roasting and packaging coffee to Cartel brand standards while maintaining an efficient, clean, and timely flow. The Production Roaster connects with the customer base by showcasing the production process within the cafe. The Production Roaster must know, practice, and ensure that company policies, procedures, applicable state and federal laws are followed at all times. The Production Roaster interacts with other departments, wholesale and retail customers, vendors, and has no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Roasts coffee by following prescribed processes to ensure products meet Cartel’s quality standards.
  • Interacts with Cartel’s order management tools.
  • Understands, schedules, and performs maintenance on roastery equipment.
  • Packages roasted coffee using weighing machine, heat sealer, and other equipment.
  • Assists in ordering coffee and supplies and maintaining inventory.
  • Educates customers on various topics about coffee and coffee roasting when needed.
  • Completes training as required.
  • Facilitates production tours for wholesale customers and special guests as needed.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned.


Education and Qualification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of the coffee industry.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic skill in the use of Microsoft applications.
  • Conflict resolution and customer service skills required.
  • Must exhibit strong team player attributes with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing quality of roasted coffee.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials up to 40 pounds overhead and 200 pounds sliding along the floor.



  • This job operates in a coffee roasting environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo/fax/scanner machines, filing cabinets, as well as large and small coffee roasters, weighing machine, heat sealing machine and various hand tools for roasting and packaging coffee.
