Humans of Cartel: Sohiany
Soy was born and raised in Mexico and now finds her home alternating between Arizona and California. She's a great barista, but an even better friend to everyone here at Cartel.
What are a few interesting things about you?
I was born and raised in Mexico until age 11, then I came to AZ and have been alternating from Cali to AZ since.
What brought you to Cartel?
Wanting to expand my coffee knowledge in one of the best specialty coffee shops in AZ. I’ve also known about cartel since high school and thought it was a cool place to work at so eventually I applied and got hired as a barista.
What's your perspective on Cartel, your community, and the industry as a whole?
One of my favorite things about working for Cartel has been the inclusivity of the community. I think it’s great that people from different backgrounds, sexual orientation, etc work together and are commended for being different.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
I enjoy serving my community and I’m grateful for the relationships I’ve been able to form with regular customers. My favorite part would have to be the connections I’ve been able to form with my unique, empathetic co workers.
What are your aspirations for the future?
Eventually go back to school and finish my degree In psych. I also want to travel as much as possible and further expand my coffee knowledge.
What is your favorite beverage?
Dry iced americano.
Next time you're in the Tempe area, say hello to Soy and the team! They're all tremendous human beings, and you're bound to have great coffee and a great time.
