Humans of Cartel
Meet George. She's currently learning Arabic, is living in Morocco next semester, and can go straight from slaying the espresso machine when she's on bar to playing classical piano. She makes us all laugh and we're always impressed by the things she achieves. Just a few of many reasons she's our #HumansOfCartel feature this week.

What brought you to Cartel?
I had been a Cartel customer for a while, and I knew a lot of people that worked at Ash. I had always enjoyed the atmosphere, the community, and (of course) the coffee. One day, my friend Tatyana told me there was an opening and I jumped at the chance to become a member of the Cartel team!
How long have you worked with Cartel?
8 months

Share a little about your perspective on Cartel's core values, your community, and the coffee industry.
Before working at Cartel, I was a coffee drinker, but Cartel made me a coffee lover. I've learned so much about the more technical aspects of coffee, and I appreciate that Cartel emphasizes sharing that knowledge with the community in a friendly, unpretentious way. The quality of ethically sourced, hand roasted coffee is really incredible, and it has the power to bring people together on both the local and global levels. Cartel's focus on making high-quality coffee, while still maintaining a high level of moral responsibility, is a great business model that I'm proud to be a part of. I think that our commitment here at Cartel to integrity and quality is what has made us such a fixture in the Tempe community, I'm incredibly lucky to be able to come into work and share amazing coffee with the people and community that I love.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is the community centered around Cartel. I love seeing our regulars and building relationships with them, and my coworkers here at Cartel have quickly become some of my closest friends. I love that people gather at Cartel, it really is an important space in the Tempe community, and I love to be a part of helping foster that community environment.
What are your aspirations for the future?
Once I complete my BA in Philosophy at ASU next year, I plan to attend law school and get my Juris doctorate alongside a graduate degree in philosophy. I am interested in practicing human rights law, international law, or public defense.
What is your favorite beverage?
Small iced oat milk latte with the tiniest amount of vanilla.
Stop by our Tempe location, have George make you some coffee, and ask her about her troll doll collection and her aspirations to become a lawyer one day.
